Reviewing my Media preliminary task

KIDNAPPED, mine and Dan's preliminary task, was the first video I have ever editied before, so everything was new to me. I used Final Cut Pro, a piece of software available on most Mac's that offers some good editing tools to be used on videos. Though my first time, I feel that I grasped the basic concept of video editing and produced a fairly well edited video which included music and transistions between shots. Mr. Seston also said that it was a well edited video for my first one, which was something I was happy about.

However, of course the editing isn't perfect, and there are some things I would have liked to change. For example, the scene when I fight Lijo and Julian in the classroom originally had a freezeframe, where their names came up a they appeared in the shot. Although in the end it seemed better putting the credits in at the front, I still liked that freeze frame and wish it had been kept. Also, speaking on the opening credits, praise has to go to Dan there for he discovered the program and used it to make the opening credits.

A mistake I made was at the end of the video, during the closing credits. The music was supposed to start playing when the credit began rolling, but I forgot to move the music up along with it, so the music won't start until a few seconds into the video, and becaue the music was supposed to last the length of the credits, the video goes on a few more seconds than it should have. It was a simple mistake that could have been easily prevented, but due to my rush (and somewhat excitement) in uploading it.

However, I do think this was a success overall, and it has currently racked up a respectable 38 views on Youtube. I was happy with my first-time editing and how the video turned out in the end.

Skyfall trailer

The Skyfall poster
Skyfall is the upcoming latest installment in the James Bond saga, with this entry marking the 23rd entry into the James Bond films. Bond shall again be returning (Daniel Craig too), this time on a more personal mission to reveal who new bad guy Raoul Silva really is and what his relationship with both Bond and M is. The film will also mark the first Bond film to be released in Imax theatres and will be released on the 50th anniversary of the James Bond films. Anyway, now to analyse the trailer.

In the trailer, we see both genders in a position of power. Of course, there's James Bond who, as the protagonist, is supposed to have some power as an agent of MI6. However, the real power lies with the head of MI6, M, who has full control over Bond and his actions. This means that the movie plays against gender stereotypes, as most films like this one would have the man in the main position of power and the woman would normally be under them. This is also quite unique for a James Bond film, as normally even when Dame Judy Dench was playing M, Bond would disregard her orders and do what he wants, however this time he is actually listening and obeying, putting the woman definately in charge.

The key elements throughout this trailer also reflect the thriller genre, such as mystery and intrigue. For example, who blew up MI6? How does the bad guy know so much about Bond? Who is he? The trailer leaves us asking these questions and more, keeping the audience interested whilst showing off typical aspects of the thriller genre. Another theme in the trailer is war. The antagonist is trying to reveal secrets about Bond which could begin an internal war in MI6 for him. This is common in James Bond films, as he normally has to try and stop a war from taking place by stopping the main bad guy.

Finally, Bond says he was 'Resurrected'. This could mean many things, for example Bond has taken responsibility to rise up and accept his mistakes. It could also be to show a 'Marxist' struggle between the lower class thugs and upper class Bond. Finally, it could be a tongue-in-cheek reference to the fact that Bond is back for a 23rd time, and he is unkillable.

Thats all for this analysis. Thanks for reading!

An update for you all!

Just to keep you all up to date, me and Dan have pretty much got a good idea on what our prelim video will be about and our final trailer.

Prelim video

For our prelim video we have decided to do a scene of a man being kidnapped. Whilst at this point in time we're not too sure on exactly how th kidnapping will occur, we do already have a scene filmed of the kidnapped victim begging for answers, so that much is confirmed. I will let you know when we have a better idea of what will happen.

Final trailer

The final trailer will be based on some kind of zombie apocalypse, drawing inpsiration from movies like '28 Weeks Later'. We also have a title which we both like, '115' (which we got the idea for from a certain zombies-related game me and Dan are both familiar with), which I think it's safe to say will be the final title of the 'movie'. It is not intended to be a comedy survival horror, like Zombieland, but is suppose to be a serious movie and so we will treat it as one.

Finally, we are intending to keep a video blog of all objectives we have to meet and when to meet them, and how these tasks are coming along. We have the first episode done already, we'll just need to find some time to edit it and post it onto Youtube. as of yet, we do not have a Youtube account to post the videos too but we are thinking of making one and calling it 'DaNav Productions', but i'll have to let you know about that one.

That's all the news I have to tell you today. If you want to check out Dan's blog then visit www.danielmcginleyfoundationproduction.blogspot.co.uk. That's all from me so thanks for reading!
